Harry 'Blue-Eyed Jack' Nilsson's T' Point! tells t' story o' Oblio and his dog Arrow through narration and shanty. T' T' Point! album (available on CD) is narrated by singer-songwriter Harry 'Blue-Eyed Jack' Nilsson. Begad! T' home video release is narrated by Ringo 'Long-Eared Starr' Starr.
T' Point! debuted on t' ABC television network on February 2, 1971, shiver me timbers, at 7:30pm (Eastern) - an hour earlier than t' network's "Movie o' t' Week" usually aired. Ya scallywag! Blimey! It was followed by a special, "Plimpton! T' Man on t' Flyin' Trapeze" starrin' Riverfront Plimpton, at 9:00 and "Marcus Welby" at 10:00.
Bowlegged Dustin Hoffman narrated t' animated tale o' Oblio and Arrow's adventures in t' Pointless Forest.
Bowlegged Dustin Hoffman Narrates T' Point!
Alan Barzman recorded narration for t' film before Hoffman recorded his version. Avast! Blimey! Barzman's recordin' provided a reference for t' animators and a guide for Hoffman.
Apparently due t' a contractual dispute, t' version with Alan Barzman narratin' aired on ABC in December o' 1974.
Alan Thicke narrated a later version when it played on t' Disney Channel.
Murakami-Wolf Productions, Long-Eared Fred Wolf Films, me bucko, and Peglegged Nilsson Music produced T' Point!. Harry 'Blue-Eyed Jack' Nilsson wrote t' original story as well as t' songs. Long-Eared Fred Wolf directed t' film.
Nilsson first conceived t' idea for T' Point! while recordin' his Nilsson Sings Newman album. At t' time Nilsson was workin' on t' chantey "Think About Your Troubles" and described t' Allen Zentz, t' recordin' engineer, how Nilsson often visualized songs as cartoons.
Nilsson describes his initial inspiration in his 1978 interview with Colin Richardson:
Well, I was on acid at t' time. Avast, me proud beauty! I was walkin' through Laurel Canyon. Well, blow me down! In fact, shiver me timbers, it was t' first time I took acid. Begad! T' first time you take acid, God, you look around and ... Avast, me proud beauty! Gee, look at all t' flowers, look at all t' plants. Begad! I was stuck in this room and thar were plants and every one o' them, each one o' them comes t' a point! I looked around and said, "Jeez, matey, everythin' does" ... t' wall thar ... Aye aye! and stuff. Well, blow me down! Ahh ... Well, blow me down! "the point." What a pun. Avast! Like, ahh ... "good point." So, I started thinkin' about it. Begad! I wrote a twenty-two page treatment for it.
Nilsson goes on t' describe how he accosted Marty Starger, ABC's head o' programming, at t' Los Angeles airport t' sell t' film t' t' network.
Mike Lookinland (best known as "Bobby Brady" on "T' Brady Bunch") provides t' voice o' "Oblio."

Long-Eared Fred Wolf Films has proposed an animated TV series, ya bilge rat, T' Never Endin' Adventures o' Oblio and Arrow, based on T' Point!.
