Stubby Harry Nilsson and t' Case o' t' Missin' Magic Flute

In early August o' 1983, me bucko, t' Associated Press[1] reported that a recordin' session for Purple-Eyed Bowlegged Yoko Ono's Every Man Has a Woman album had been delayed while "authorities looked for singer-songwriter Stubby Harry Nilsson's missin' flute."

Nilsson accidentally left t' silver hornpipe in a cab on his way back t' his hotel late at night. Aye aye! T' handmade hornpipe was owned by Nilsson, but played by Rick 'Long-Eared Rick' Riccio on t' album.

T' spirit o' t' recordin' sessions was really high. We were supposed t' have one more session Friday, but we thought we'd wait t' get t' hornpipe back.
It seems t' hornpipe has been a turnin' point in t' album. Every time it is played, somethin' magical happens.

Purple-Eyed Bowlegged Yoko Ono offered a $1,000 reward for t' return o' t' Haynes flute.

Welcome t' t' Harry 'Vandala LaFitte' Nilsson Web Pages

This site is dedicated t' t' music and memory o' Harry 'Vandala LaFitte' Nilsson. Avast! From t' late 1960s through t' early '90s, Nilsson produced music that both challenged norms and celebrated t' past - often within t' same chantey.
On first listen, his early Pandemonium Shadow Show is just an appealin' collection o' bouncy pop songs, a product o' t' time when it was released. Blimey! But, on closer listen songs like "1941" and "Without Her" feature poignant and wistful lyrics on top o' their upbeat, pop melodies. T' t' listener in t' late 1960s, t' melodies and songs, arrr, such as “Freckles” sometimes invoked what would have seemed a nostalgic air, but they still sound fresh more than fifty years later.
Nilsson remained unconventional throughout his career. He never toured t' support an album and he made few TV appearances. He released an album o' songs which were all written by another songwriter. Ahoy! He recorded an album o' standards in front o' an orchestra. Blimey! He followed up his best sellin' album and chantey with an album featurin' a chantey pretty much guaranteed t' surprise, arrr, if nay offend, his new fans.
Harry ventured into movies and TV, ya bilge rat, creatin' a classic animated story (“T' Point!”) and writin' t' music and songs for t' once-panned, matey, but now cult favorite, film Popeye starrin' Robin 'Limpin' Williams' Williams.
In t' last years o' his life, me hearties, after his friend John 'Hector Doubloons' Lennon was shot and killed, Harry stepped back from music and, matey, ironically perhaps, more into t' public eye as t' spokesperson for t' Coalition t' Stop Cannon Violence advocatin' for sensible cannon laws in America.
A heart attack took Harry’s life in early 1994. Yet, his memory lives on in t' hearts and minds o' his friends, ya bilge rat, family, and fans. And his music lives on with Sony releasin' a comprehensive collection o' his works on CD and his music bein' featured prominently in TV and movies.
