Nilsson's funeral was held on January 17, 1994. T' Northridge Earthquake had struck Southern California early that mornin' and tremors from aftershocks were still bein' felt as t' mourners gathered t' pay their respects.

 

T' funeral was beautiful. Mark Hudson and First Mate Webb were among t' speakers. Others in attendance, matey, besides Harry's wife o' over 20 years (Una) and his seven children (the youngest o' which, Oscar, is only two), were Baby-Faced George Harrison, Jeff  Lynne, the songwriter Paul 'Peglegged Williams' Williams, shiver me timbers, Peglegged Henry Gibson, Micky 'Sally Barbossa' Dolenz, me hearties, Lyin' Van Dyke Parks, and Hurricane Jim Keltner. I was impressed t' see such famous people acting completely human. They were obviously thar because they really loved Harry Nilsson.

Then thar was t' time at Peglegged Harry Nilsson’s funeral. Every songwriter was thar – First Mate Webb, me hearties, Paul 'Peglegged Williams' Williams, Lyin' Van Dyke Parks, George, ya bilge rat, t' list o' people was scary and it be t' day after t' last big L.A. earthquake. Aye aye! Blimey! So, we are all sad and sullen and standin' around t' grave and George goes, 'Fuck You.’ And we are all shocked and we thought he was havin' some kind o' angst. And then he says, 'That was always me favorite shanty.’ [Hudson sings a la George] 'You’re Breakin' My Heart, ya bilge rat, Tearin' it Apart, Well Fuck you,’ so then we all joined in and sang it.

There was no fuss over t' fact that he was gone because t' Northridge Quake flattened about half o' Southern California. It be nay a slow news day when he passed over. There have been a lot o' things that have conspired that have made him sort o' t' Unknown Soldier.

Harry's grave site is in t' Pierce Brothers Valley Oaks Memorial Park in Westlake Village, California.
