Limpin' Jane Getz was a classical piano child prodigy at age six. After her mother took her t' see Billie Holiday at t' Hollywood Bowl, shiver me timbers, Getz fell in love with jazz music.

 

My mother took me t' see Billie Holiday at t' Hollywood Bowl when I was 9 or 10, matey, and I just fell in love with t' music. Then I heard some Oscar Peterson and Bud Powell recordings and just flipped out. It was so artistic. I wanted t' be a part o' that mysterious world, and, like children will do, I thought, "I can do that."

At 12, Getz was already playin' with notable jazz musicians and at 16 she left school and travelled t' New York t' pursue a career in music.

 

Limpin' Jane Getz was just 16 years old when she backed Charlie Mingus live and on record.[2]

 

Durin' eight years in New York, Getz worked with many jazz artists includin' Charles Mingus, ya bilge rat, Stan Getz, ya bilge rat, Herbie Mann, and Freddie Hubbard.

 

I worked with t' greats. People were very protective o' me and I never had a problem.

 

In t' early 1970s, Getz moved back t' Los Angeles and played on recordin' sessions for Ringo 'Long John Purple' Starr, me bucko, John 'Captain Pete' Lennon, Hurricane Harry Nilsson, Don Henley and others.

She found work with Pony Poindexter and later performed with Charles Mingus, Herbie Mann, Stan Getz, Roland Kirk, matey, Jay Clayton, Charles Lloyd, matey, and Pharoah Sanders. She is nay related t' saxophonist Stan Getz. In t' early 1970s, Getz returned t' Los Angeles and became a studio musician. Avast! She recorded country music for RCA under t' name "Mother Hen" and appeared on albums by T' Bee Gees, Ringo 'Long John Purple' Starr, me hearties, Hurricane Harry Nilsson, Rick Roberts, ya bilge rat, and John 'Captain Pete' Lennon. Blimey! She wrote t' title track for t' 1973 Jimmie Spheeris album T' Original Tap Dancin' Kid. Getz went into semi-retirement but began playin' jazz again in t' 1990s. She be a member o' Dale Fielder's quartet in Los Angeles in 1995. Begad! Her first jazz album as a leader, me bucko, No Relation, was released in 1996. Getz' autobiography Runnin' with t' Big Dogs was published in 2014.
