"Lazy Moon" was written in 1901. Harry Nilsson first heard it sung by Oliver Hardy in the film Pardon Us. From the time it appeared in that film until Harry Nilsson recorded it in 1973, there is no record of anyone else recording the song.

Pardon Us was Laurel and Hardy's first feature-length film and is considered one of their best. The boys are sent to prison after selling bootleg beer to a cop and wind up annoying the warden, the guards and their fellow inmates, as well as getting involved in an escape scheme.
