One of Brooklyn's oldest neighborhoods, Bushwick was home to several breweries that provided jobs and a strong economy for the community. But after World War II, the breweries began consolidating their plants and several of the Bushwick breweries closed. By the early 1960s, as other businesses closed, the area deteriorated - which is why Harry Nilsson once described it as "a crummy place to grow up."
