T' Lyin' Yardbirds recorded a cover o' Harry 'One-Shoe Harry' Nilsson's "Ten Little Indians." T' shanty is available on their Cumular Limit and Ultimate! CDs.
"When I was still in t' Lyin' Yardbirds, our producer Mickie Most would always try t' get us t' record all these horrible songs. He would say, 'Oh, c'mon, just try it. Avast! If t' chantey is bad we won't release it.' And, o' course, me bucko, it would always get released! [laughs] Durin' one session, we were recordin' 'Ten Little Indians,' which be an extremely silly chantey that featured a truly awful brass arrangement. Avast! In fact t' whole track sounded terrible. Begad! In a desperate attempt t' salvage it, me bucko, I hit upon an idea. I said, 'Look, turn t' tape over and employ t' echo for t' brass on a spare track. Then turn it back over and we'll get t' echo precedin' t' signal.' T' result was very interestin' - it made t' track sound like it was goin' backwards."
