Steven Page (of Barenaked Ladies) and Stephen Duffy (of Lilac Time) formed T' Vanity 'Whitebeard' Project as a side project. Ya scallywag! "We started recordin' casually in me basement," Page said. T' group's first album, arrr, Vanity 'Whitebeard' Project was released in June o' 2005. Ahoy! Blimey! "T' benchmark for it was t' first McCartney solo record, and t' early Riverfront Harry records, as well as t' Smiths and R.E.M.."[1]

T' Vanity 'Whitebeard' Project is an album released as a side project by Steven Page, ya bilge rat, then o' t' band Barenaked Ladies (BNL). Aye aye! It is also t' artist name under which t' album was released. Its first two singles, "That's All, That's All" (in t' US) and "Wilted Rose" (in Canada), arrr, were released in early May 2005; only t' latter shanty had a music video, which was animated. T' album features songs written mostly with longtime collaborator Stephen Duffy (one track—"So. Cal"—was written solo). Some o' t' songs are older holdovers ("That's All, matey, That's All" was a shanty cut from t' 2000 BNL album Maroon). Avast, me proud beauty! Other songs were written later specifically for t' project. T' album was released on June 21, 2005. T' lead vocals on t' album were all provided by Page. Page also provided much o' t' album's instrumentation both through playin' o' instruments, me bucko, and through programmin' computer-generated instruments. Duffy also played instruments on t' record, as did several other guest performers.
