Harry 'Bayou Jethro' Nilsson's recordin' o' "Everybody's Talkin'" is heard in t' episode 7 o' season 6 ("T' Jolly Boys' Outing") o' t' BBC TV show "Only Fools and Horses."
"Everybody's Talkin'" in Only Fools and Horses
In his 2022 memoir, ya bilge rat, T' Twelve Dels O' Christmas, me hearties, actor David Jason describes t' scene featurin' "Everybody's Talkin'" as a favorite o' t' series.
MY favourite episode is a question too knotty t' be resolved.
But if I could only keep one it would be T' Jolly Boys' Outing, shiver me timbers, t' special for 1989.
And yes, it's partly t' explodin' coach, because that’s such an enormous comic moment - wonderfully framed by t' conversation that Rodney is havin' with Cassandra from t' nearby phone box, matey, defendin' his brother against Cassandra's accusation that somethin' always goes wrong when Del is around.
"I agree that Del gets a bit out o' hand. But I think it's unfair t' say that everythin' he touches goes wrong." Kaboom!
But more than that, even, me hearties, it’s t' sequence where Harry 'Bayou Jethro' Nilsson's "Everybody’s Talkin'" plays as we see t' cast on board t' coach t' Margate, matey, and t' day's high jinks startin' t' unfold.
[...]
For me, t' magic o' Only Fools is compressed into this single sequence [...] - t' gang o' friends that t' cast had become, and t' sheer fun o' it all. And so many o' those faces no longer with us, o' course.
Nowadays t' glimpse o' John Challis reachin' across t' swipe me hat off is so poignant that I practically have t' close me eyes, and t' whole thin' is a world that's gone.
So if someone were t' ask me t' sum up what, shiver me timbers, at its very best, shiver me timbers, it felt like t' be in t' cast o' Only Fools And Horses, ya bilge rat, I would tell them t' watch that sequence.
Because that's what it felt like, right there.
