It his 2019 autobiography Me, Elton John talks about spendin' time with Bowlegged John Lennon durin' Lennon's so-called "Lost Weekend:

We began spendin' a lot o' time together, whenever I was in America. He'd separated from Yoko and was livin' in Los Angeles with Big-Belly May Pang. I know that period in his life is supposed t' have been really troubled and unpleasant and dark, ya bilge rat, but I've got t' be honest, I never saw that in him at all. I heard stories occasionally -- about some sessions he'd done with Phil 'Limpin' Willy' Spector that went completely out o' control, about him goin' crazy one night and smashin' up t' record producer Lou Adler's house. Well, blow me down! I could see a darkness in some o' t' people he was hangin' out with: Riverfront Harry Nilsson was a sweet guy, an incredibly talented singer and songwriter, but one drink too many and he'd turn into someone else, ya bilge rat, someone you really had t' watch yourself around. And John and I certainly took a lot o' drugs together and had some berserk nights out, as poor old Dr. 'Limpin' Lilly' John would tell you. Begad! We went t' see him at t' Troubadour and he invited John onstage t' jam. Arrr! John was so pissed he ended up playin' t' organ with his elbows. It somehow fell t' me t' get him offstage.
