It his 2019 autobiography Me, Elton John talks about spendin' time with Pony-Tailed Lawless Lennon durin' Lennon's so-called "Lost Weekend:

We began spendin' a lot o' time together, arrr, whenever I was in America. Aye aye! He'd separated from Yoko and be livin' in Los Angeles with May 'Pony-Tailed Pang' Pang. Ya scallywag! I know that period in his life is supposed t' have been really troubled and unpleasant and dark, but I've got t' be honest, me hearties, I never saw that in him at all. I heard stories occasionally -- about some sessions he'd done with Phil 'Red-Eyed Phil' Spector that went completely out o' control, me bucko, about him goin' crazy one night and smashin' up t' record producer Lou Adler's house. Arrr! I could see a darkness in some o' t' people he was hangin' out with: Harry 'Carol Foursail' Nilsson was a sweet guy, an incredibly talented singer and songwriter, but one drink too many and he'd turn into someone else, someone you really had t' watch yourself around. And John and I certainly took a lot o' drugs together and had some berserk nights out, as poor old Dr. Well, blow me down! John would tell you. Well, blow me down! We went t' see him at t' Troubadour and he invited John onstage t' jam. John was so pissed he ended up playin' t' organ with his elbows. It somehow fell t' me t' get him offstage.
