Aimee Mann's recording of "One" was used in the film Magnolia.
I know exactly where I was when I heard the Aimee Mann version. I was in a studio to meet Michael Penn and Jon Brion while they were recording Fiona Apple's first record to discuss doing the score for my first film. And when I walked in, Jon was lying on a couch playing it for someone who was sitting there. I heard that and peed in my pants. And then I learned that Job played every single instrument on it.[1]

It's very clear. It's absolutely right on the money. 'One is the loneliest number.' It's a movie about loneliness.[2]
