In 1982, Wallace Alberston, a lifelong activist and the widow of actor Jack Albertson, campaigned for the Democratic nomination for a seat in the California State Assembly.

Harry Nilsson supported her candidacy. On Saturday, March 27, 1982, Nilsson hosted a "celebrity cocktail party" at his home to raise funds for her campaign.[1] Attendees included singer Helen Reddy, producers Norman Lear and James Komak, former congress member Bella Abzug, former White House aide Midge Costanza, and gay rights advocate Morris Kight.[2]
