Alanis Morissette

Alanis Nadine Morissette ( ə-LAN-iss MORR-iss-ET; born June 1, 1974) is a Canadian and American singer, songwriter, and musician. Morissette began her music career in Canada in the early 1990s, releasing two dance-pop albums. She achieved global success with her alternative rock album, Jagged Little Pill (1995), which sold over 33 million copies and won Morissette four Grammy Awards including Album of the Year. It produced the singles "You Oughta Know", "You Learn", "Hand in My Pocket", "Ironic", and "Head over Feet". Jagged Little Pill propelled her to become a cultural phenomenon and has been included on several all-time lists. Morissette won two more Grammy Awards for her single "Uninvited" (1998). Also in 1998, she released her experimental album, Supposed Former Infatuation Junkie, which was highly anticipated and experienced similar success to its predecessor. It produced the singles "Thank U", "Joining You", "Unsent", and "So Pure". Her next album, Under Rug Swept (2002), marked the first time she was the sole producer of an entire record. Her singles have achieved global chart success, and she holds the record for the most songs topping the Billboard Alternative Airplay chart among female artists. She has received numerous accolades, including a Brit Award, seven Grammy Awards, and fourteen Juno Awards. Rolling Stone described her as the "queen of alt-rock angst", VH1 ranked her the 53rd-greatest woman in Rock And Roll, and Billboard called her one of the greatest pop stars.
